"Trying to Stay Warm"

from $7.99

When I saw on the weather app that we were supposed to get hit with one more big snowstorm before spring, I got pretty excited. I was hopeful that this snowfall would bring some much-needed moisture to help green everything up. I also wanted to capture some beautiful winter photos, since I didn’t really get the chance to during this poor winter in Montana.

The storm arrived and dropped almost a foot of snow. I wasn’t planning on going out at first, since we got a lot more than I expected, but that quickly changed when I saw all the trees covered in a beautiful blanket of snow.

I decided to head out on a hike to capture the beauty of it all. I was walking through nearly a foot of snow everywhere I went, with even deeper drifts in places. After capturing multiple photos of the heavily covered landscape, I reached a spot overlooking part of town.

From there, I sat on a windy ridge, photographing a colorful mountain bluebird. I was in awe as I watched this puffed-up little bird battle the winter wind. I’ve always wanted to photograph a bluebird, and I felt lucky to capture one in the snow. It sat at the end of a branch, feathers puffed out to keep warm, looking like a tiny ball of fluff against the cold. This photo captures a bluebird perched at the tip of a branch, trying to stay warm with its feathers fluffed out.
