When I saw on the weather app that we were supposed to get hit with one more big snowstorm before spring, I got pretty excited. This was a few weeks ago, and I was hopeful the snowfall would bring some much-needed moisture to help green everything up. I also wanted to capture some beautiful winter photos, since I didn’t really get the chance to during this poor winter in Montana.
The storm arrived and dropped almost a foot of snow. I wasn’t planning on going out at first since we got more than I expected, but that quickly changed when I saw all the trees covered in a beautiful blanket of snow.
I decided to head out on a hike to capture the beauty of it all. I was walking through nearly a foot of snow everywhere I went, with even deeper drifts in places. After capturing multiple photos of the heavily covered landscape, I reached a spot overlooking part of town.
I watched as a beautiful raven pair soared along the cliff face, swooping back and forth until they landed on a tall dead tree. I got closer, laid down in the snow, and captured one flying up to the other and settling in beside it. I photographed many beautiful moments between the pair and watched as they eventually flew off down the cliff face to a new tree.
This photo captures both ravens sitting close to each other.
