"Going Down"

from $7.99

On a cold February day, I found myself in the middle of a large group of wild turkeys. They fed in front of me at about ten yards, and I was able to capture quite a few amazing photos. After a while, the group went on their way, and I watched from a distance as they began flying into what I believe was their roosting tree—even though it was only 10 a.m. In all my time outdoors, I’ve only ever seen turkeys roost for the night, never in the middle of the day.

It was a very special moment, as most people don’t get to see turkeys fly since they’re known for being such grounded birds. I captured so many incredible moments, and this photo captures a hen taking off from a tree.

Just for clarification, I didn’t make these turkeys fly or disturb them in any way. I stayed under the same tree the entire time and didn’t move, making sure they wouldn’t feel scared or threatened by my presence. Every turkey photo was simply a matter of being in the right spot at the right time.
