While out on an eventful hike filled with some amazing moments and photographs—including turkeys and deer—I also found myself sitting with this beautiful Downy Woodpecker in the warm sunlight on a cold day. I was able to watch the woodpecker sit in the tree for a few minutes before it moved to another one. I captured quite a few beautiful photos, and this one shows it in the middle of a somewhat heart-shaped part of the tree, with the sunlight glowing in the background.
